Marian Orchard: A Serene Place for Refection

If you’re searching for a serene place to go to this coming holy week, check this landmark called Marian Orchard. You can also make this one of your stops if you’ll be doing Visita Iglesia in the southern part of Luzon at Brgy. Malabanan, Balete, Batangas.

Short History

Marian Orchard is a pilgrimage site for Roman Catholics that promotes the religion through the propagation of Marian devotion and other religious activities. The place was started by Lazaro L. Katigbak in 1988 after he acquired the land. In January 2015, Lazaro and FAITH Colleges (First Asia Institute of Technology and Humanities) entered into a partnership. Maybe that’s the reason of the large improvements that we saw from a couple of years ago visit.

Solemn, peaceful, beautiful – just some of the few words that can describe this place. Located near the Taal Lake, nature lovers will surely enjoy this as plenty of greens can be seen, the wind blowing at your face is fresh and clean; flowers bloom in different colors.

Upon entering the gate, you will be greeted with the picturesque view. On its side is a small chapel that can accommodate around 50 persons based on my estimate. Holy Mass is scheduled weekly at 4:30 in the afternoon and during holy occasions. There is also a small store/eatery near the entrance if you get hungry.

Holy Week and Religious Holidays

For those who will be venturing this Holy Week 2018, be informed that lots of crowd flock here as well. The entrance is now at P50 compared to our previous visit which was just P20 per pax, but the improvement can be seen and it’s still very affordable for a lovely place.

You can add this as a stop to your Visita Iglesia as the place has Stations of the Cross featuring life-sized statues. At the foot of the stairs near the chapel is a stairway to the Stations.

Here are some views we saw during the walk:

Here’s a ‘Ruin’ from an unfinished building found its way to blend with nature. The path of the stations is not that easy, literally. You may want to leave your high heels, bring umbrella, and a bottle of water.
There are also cages with playful monkeys and birds inside it. Make sure to remind the kids not to hurt them. After the stations, you can go to the garden of saints with a few more climb. Here’s an interesting signage we saw during our visit years ago:
Be sure to follow the place’s House Rules. They can also be read at their website. Some are:
  • No smoking
  • Refrain from eating within the grounds
  • Observe silence
In the garden you can find more sacred statues and structures.

Don’t forget to climb the tower to see a breathtaking view of the whole Marian Orchard and the famous Taal Lake. You can watch the beautiful sunset here and take selfies with a scenic background. You can also read interesting facts around.

There’s also a map printed on a tarpaulin located at the entrance gate. Have a look for an easier navigation around the place. marian orchard balete batangas, marian orchard batangas, entrance fee

How to Go to Marian Orchard?

The garden is just a few minutes drive from the highway of Lipa city. We went here easily with the use of Google Maps. But be sharp in searching for it because the signage is small and you may miss it.

From Manila:

  1. Ride a bus going to Lipa, Batangas. There are bus stations in Cubao – Jam and ALPS and Buendia – Jam, ALPS, DLTB, JAC, RRCG
  2. Depart at SM City Lipa
  3. Take a jeepney going to Jollibee Levitown (it’s near Robinson’s)
  4. Finally ride a jeepney going to Balete Batangas and tell the driver to drop you off at Marian Orchard.

For private cars, you can use Waze, Google Maps, Here or other nav apps.

From here, there are plenty of recommended point of attraction around Batangas:

See Cintai Coritos Garden here.

or Valentino’s Resorts and Spa.

Or you can book in hotels near Lipa City:

We’ll also be featuring Shercon just a few minutes away from this landmark.
